A new gem which has popped up on Frith Street in line with the tapas trend that is taking over W1. A light bite is the only way to describe this breed of restaurants unless you are prepared to spend an absolute bomb and order a couple of everything on the menu.

Having said that, a wise man once said it’s about quality and not quantity, and Ceviche falls very solidly line with this . Perfectly formed little dishes of mesmerizingly tasty morsels, with an overriding flavor of fresh zingy lime and rich fish, with smoky meats and thick chunky fries should you feel a big greedy.

BARRANCO I LOVE YOU £6.50

This is definitely one of the signature dishes of Ceviche. Thinly sliced seabass which is softly marinated in a delicious crisp lemon-y sauce. There are only about 6 10p slivers on the elegant plate, but each is a party in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. Very delicious and perfectly executed.

LOMO SALTADO £12.50

The sirloin was perfectly cooked, infused with a  rich smoky flavor which continued in the juices which were perfect for dipping the chips into. Onions and tomatoes complimented the meat perfectly. Again, only about 6 chunks so not that filling but a complete fiesta for the tastebuds.

SAKURA MARU £6.25

Another namesake, this dish was similarly light and crispy as the seabass. Slightly less exciting as salmon has become a more common fish, but the flavours were just right, the zing of the lemon going to the point of being overbearing before the rich salmon meat cut in.

ENSALADA DE QUINOA £3.75

This salad was more underwhelming than the rest of the dishes, just because it contained more familiar ingredients, and is meant as a side so the flavours are not overwhelming. It is, however, a nice salad dish and compliments the overall vibe of the place and the food.

CAUSA SANTA ROSA £5.30

A green potato cake topped with bright pink beetroot is a sight to behold, and as well as looking beautiful and bright on the plate this dish was really yummy and especially complimented the seabass.

VERDICT – I would definitely go back here, but not with a completely empty stomach or purse. The size of the dishes, and their light nature  means that you do not feel full upon leaving. However, your tastebuds are more than satiated, and the quality of the ingredients answers for the price.

SURROUNDINGS – cleverly done, colourful and bright. From the street it looks very small and cramped but the back room is nicely spaced, the staff are all really lovely and attentitve. Friendly service and helpful when explaining what each dish is and recommended personal favourites, which is often the best way to approach new cuisine as a customer.
